Wolf Trap Presents: Santana

“One of rock’s true virtuosos and guiding lights” (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), Carlos Santana has achieved megastar status with his 10-time Grammy-winning fusion of Latin, blues, and rock. Number 15 on Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time list, the Mexico-native moved to San Francisco in the early 1960s. Two years after forming the Santana Blues Band in 1966, he and his bandmates were discovered by promoter Bill Graham. They then shortened their name and made their debut as Santana at The Fillmore West Theater.

Wolf Trap Presents: Guster

While college orientation can be informative, most people don’t recall the day as one of their most influential. But for the freshman trio who met that day, it was the moment their friendship, and one of America’s leading alternative rock bands, began. Shortly after meeting in 1992, Guster’s founding members Ryan Miller (vocals/guitar), Adam Gardner (guitar/vocals), and Brian Rosenworcel (percussion) started playing gigs around Boston.

Wolf Trap Presents: R5

R5 may sound like a droid from Star Wars, but this pop/rock power family isn’t from a galaxy far, far away. They’re from Littleton, Colorado and chances are you’ve seen or heard them on stage, screen, or radio. Siblings Ross (lead vocals/guitar), Riker (bass/vocals), Rydel (keyboards/vocals), and Rocky Lynch (guitar/vocals), grew up loving music and performing family concerts in their basement. They moved to Los Angeles in 2007 to pursue careers in acting, dance, and music, but above all, forming a band was a priority. Though they all were musically-inclined, they lacked a percussionist. To fill that gap, their friend Ellington Ratliff (drums) was invited to the lineup—and R5 was born.

Wolf Trap Presents: Lindsey Stirling

When Piers Morgan told her she wasn’t good enough, and Sharon Osbourne echoed saying she’d never fill a theater in Vegas, Lindsey Stirling was determined to prove them wrong. After being voted off the quarterfinals of 2010’s America’s Got Talent, the classically-trained violinist used the rejection to fuel her resolve to keep going. The following year, the Arizona native uploaded videos of her original songs to YouTube. Filmed in gorgeous locations from ice castles to deserts, her innovative style, that fuses the romance of Celtic folk and modern classical music with the infectious energy of electronica, found a permanent stage. And audiences loved it.
